biography

i’ve been a percussionist, drummer and composer for fifteen years now starting off as a street musician with the legendary skiffle and rockabilly explosion, the railtown bottlers winning the title 'european street entertainers of the year' in 1993 at the london palladium.

following from that, i became a kit player working with such artists as alison moyet, squeeze, aimee mann, nanci griffith and tim finn. I’m also a founder member of one of the world's leading percussion groups - ensemblebash.

during my time with the group i’ve played and collaborated on various musical projects with names such as stewart copeland, nitin sawhney, steve reich, chick corea, nana vasconcelos, evelyn glennie, kathryn tickell, joanna macgregor, elena riu, django bates and keith tippett. i’ve been extensively involved as writer and performer working with wildly varying musicians from all over the world and have spent several study periods in Ghana learning traditional music with the pan african
orchestra and local musicians such as ibrahim abukari and afadina tsikpa.

my composing work has covered film, advertisements, theatre and the concert hall and has been played worldwide from london’s south bank to festivals in south africa, australia, hong kong and europe and numerous broadcasts on tv and radio. i’m also currently composer-inresidence with company paradiso - a community based multi-media arts collective.
